[edit] What is there to hate?

The smugness at producing a fucking computer game i.e. not actually writing it or doing any of the stuff that requires even half a brain; swanning about the leading football stadiums in europe promoting said fucking computer game; crying about people beefing with him; crying at attempted criticism and his spasticated attempts at rebuttal; the sidebar; ter; his face; bis; cm quiz; cm magazine.

[edit] The wise words of Miles

  • "Kovalenkov - speculation is a complete and utter waste of time. If you think the game is a rip off, cancel your order, cancel your membership on these boards, and please go away. The fact that it's going to be the best football management game on the market is obviously completely wasted on you."
  • "Right. Time for me to have a bit of a rant, seeing as you lot do it all the time.

It's 11pm at night. Currently working are Alex, Dean, Kev, Marc V, Grant, Paul C, Keith, Boah, Me, Woodg & Vagga. We're trying to get CM4 perfect, for you, the fans of the game.

Yet some of you will never be happy. You moan and moan and moan. To be totally honest, I'm getting really sick of it.

We are doing our best to keep as many people happy as possible, but it seems that that will never happen until we are covering every league in the world, with every player in the world fully researched, with a game that takes 2 weeks to write. We live in the real world, not one of fantasy.

It seems to be mainly the same people who are constantly moaning - if you hate us and our games so much, why do you hang round our forums? Do you not realise, that everytime you post a message that slags us off, it not only upsets us, but also causes extra delays, as we end up replying on here, or get wound up then can't work to the best of our abilities.

Can everyone please take a deep breath and look at the facts.

CM4 will be the biggest and best football management game ever.

It has more leagues than any football management game ever.

It has the most accurate match engine of any football game ever.

It has the largest player database of any football game ever.

Now, please cut us some slack, stop moaning, look at the positives, and get ready for a game that is going to take over your life when it is released.

I have no problem with constructive criticism, but I DO have a problem with destructive criticism."
  • "I get very disheartened with the attitude on here sometimes, that of "I don't like it therefore no one does". I don't like Fifa Soccer, but that doesn't stop it from selling by the bucketload, nor does it make people who do like it any better or worse than I am as a human being.

I guess the point I'm trying to make here is that just because you don't like something, doesn't mean that others won't. And that moaning about it is not only a waste of your time and energy, but a waste of mine aswell.

You'll have a much better life if you spend it enjoying the things that you like, and ignoring the things that you don't but that don't affect you at all. So why bother commenting at all?"
  • "So the game came out to glowing reviews, and decent online pre-orders, and we sat and waited to see the numbers going up and up. The forums were full of people constructively criticising, and praising (just the way we like it) and we were all pretty buoyant. We had more licenses than any other hockey game in history, it was the best Hockey management game in the history of gaming ever, and Riz and his team had done an amazing job. So, despite Hockey being a bit less popular post the hiatus of the sport in the US in 2004, we still couldn't fail, right?

Wrong. The orders came in a drizzle, rather than a flood. We scratched our heads trying to work out what had gone wrong. And then someone pointed out that the game was being pirated, and was available as a torrent from lots of different pirating sites. Then sat there and watched as the claimed amount of downloads on those sites went up and up, as sales stayed static."
  • "Thank you to all of you out there who supported the Eastside Hockey Manager project by buying the game, and especially those who helped with testing and research. And to those of you who pirated it, this is what happens when you steal. There are no excuses you can give that are valid for stealing - you have lead to the demise of a game that you enjoyed playing."
  • "your cynicism is natural in this world of spin."
  • "I ask again - what reason would I have to lie? What reason would I have to have a system of "on-message" posts? What reason would we have to "spin" anything, when saying nothing would have been so much easier? If you don't have answer, then you owe me an apology for, effectively, calling me a liar."
  • "Re : David Beckham situation. Those who have mentioned it are correct, and it is a mistake. Somehow the researcher moved him to the wrong club as a future transfer, and even more baffling is how it was missed by everyone here and at Sega (me included)."
  • "FM Quiz Mobile IS a corker of a game!"
  • "seeing as I'm one of the people trying to make this stuff happen, I think I've got a better understanding of what is going on, and what is causing it, than you do. Posts like yours make me really wonder why I bother - you don't know me, and shouldn't judge me. I'd love you to find me another MD who would be online on a Saturday night helping out trying to launch a demo of a project. If I was what you implied, then I'd have an army of "minions" to do that instead, wouldn't I?"
  • "Some people on this thread have estimated about thousands, then tens of thousands of people in Turkey who are affected by this, and that figure is way off the mark. There may well be that many people in Turkey playing the game, but genuine sales there are tiny, making up about 0.1% of global sales."

Miles on why SI failed to fix a bug they were notified about before their 8.0.2 patch was released, that causes Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, 2 of the biggest clubs in Europe, who almost always make the Champions League group stage, to lose 30/40 million Pounds a year because the game decides to ignore the database ticket prices set by the Turkish research group.
  • "It seems that there may well be a "cheat" out there for defenders with certain stats to score a lot of goals from set pieces. Much like when the diablo tactic came about, we'll have a look at it, and look to close the loophole in the long run, although I must say that this is a very hard cheat to use, as it does require certain skills in defenders. I tried to use it with my normal team in my saved game, and it had little to no effect."

"How much - no, I'd say that there is an exploit that can be used in certain conditions that could increase your chances of scoring at corners. To say that that makes the whole match engine flawed, as you've impled, is incorrect." - Miles on how players in FM 08 patch 8.0.2 can set defenders to Near Post and Challenge GK in their corner setup, and score dozens of goals a season. Clearly and exploit, as no-one IRL ever sets their best headers to near post or to attack the keeper.

Glad to see someone pirating our game having their game being screwed over.

That will not happen in the retail version. It is one of many thinks that will happen over the long term when the pirating scum steal food from our tables.

Nice thread title too Furney - want me to edit it for you?
    • the above is of course horseshit, as SI can't get their demo saves to work properly.

[edit] an explanation?
