Gérard Houllier
From ARFOPEDIA
Ex-France, Lyon and Liverpool manager, Currently unemployed.
[edit] France
The perpetually astonished-faced and swivelly, boggle-eyed Houllier was in charge of France for one world cup qualifying campaign, but even in that short and unsuccessful time, managed to produce a cult moment, when he blamed David Ginola for France choking in their final two qualifying games and missing out on a world cup 94 place.
[edit] Liverpool
Houllier's spell in charge of Liverpool began in cult circumstances when he was appointed joint manager of Liverpool alongside Roy Evans. Evans quickly moved on when he finally realised he was no good and Houllier assumed sole control. Taking over a side that was full of players who had totally failed to live up to the hype placed on them in recent seasons (Jamie Redknapp, Robbie Fowler etc etc), Houllier instigated a restructuring of the clubs playing staff, and despite some bizarre decisions (such as appointing well known idiot and cunt Phil Thompson as his assistant), Houllier guided the club to their most successful season in 10 years when they won three trophies in a season in 00-01.
01-02 carried on in this wise fashion, with Liverpool finishing second in the league depsite Houllier's heart having a lie down for most of the season.
Gradually however houllier began to fall off over the following two seasons, despite being given money to spend he made some signings that didn't work (Bruno Cheyrou. Salif Daio, El Hadji Diouf and Harry Kewell the most notable ones), and Houllier was given the boot after failing to qualify for the champions league at the end of the 03/04 season.
[edit] Lyon
Houllier proved that Paul Le Guen was perhaps not as good as the hype made out, by doing as well as he did.
