19 points

19 points was the lowest amount of points gained in any one Premiership season, achieved by Sunderland A.F.C. in the 2002/03 season. Amusingly, over a 5th of these points were against Liverpool. Mick McCarthy took over with 9 games to go and simply dismissed the rest of the season, instead ensuring that the club would go into the record books. After losing his fifth game 2-1 at home to West Brom, Mick was engaged in confrontation with the home fans and is claimed to have arrogantly blamed "that prat" for the club's predicament. The record was heroically surpassed in the 2005/6 season after Mick, deciding that 19 points was simply not embarassing enough, laid the foundations of the club's march to a total of 15 points.
