15 points is currently the second-lowest number of points gained in a Premiership season, and the sequel to 2003's blockbuster 19 points.

[edit] 15 points - the full story

Until the 2005/06 season it was widely believed that it was literally impossible to gain less than 19 points in a season. Sunderland's return to the Premiership in this season was to confound statisticians and pundits alike as Mad Mick decided to dismiss conventional football achievement in favour of cementing his place in the record books. Although Mick was dismissed after 28 games, Kevin "Bally" Ball casually came in to build upon Mick's legacy: with 37 games gone, Sunderland heroically sit on 15 points and will improve upon the supposed perfection of their 19 point record. Ball, despite being awesome, disappointed some Sunderland purists by claiming a draw in his fourth game in charge, and therefore failed to break Mad Mick's record of losing his first 11 games. Even more disappointingly, Ball dashed his chances of landing the job on a permanent basis, winning as quickly as in his ninth game in charge.

Incredibly, this milestone was surpassed thanks to the brave efforts of Paul Jewell and his Derby County heroes in the 2007/08 season.
